What is Non-Surgical Periodontal Care?
Non-surgical periodontal care refers to procedures that don’t require the cutting of tissue, such as laser therapy. One example is LANAP™ (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure). LANAP™ uses a laser to regenerate the tissues that support your teeth, including the gums, bone, cementum, and ligaments that have been lost due to gum disease. The laser targets infected tissue, detecting its darker color. At the same time it activates the healthy tissue, encouraging it to regenerate and reattach to the bone. LANAP™ not only treats gum disease, it reduces the risk of reinfection.
